The amazing picture book of the Huddersfield Embroiderers’ Guild

No, I haven’t joined the Guild but my wife has been an avid embroiderer for donkeys’ years.

In October 2019, the Yorkshire and Humberside regional guild set a challenge for their members to produce an artistic interpretation of any image(s) from my website. Regional members had a whole year to produce their chosen piece and the product of each local guild was to have been judged in October 2020.

Well, we all know what happened next and, as a result, the respective guilds have been unable to meet since the first lockdown in March last year. I’m not sure where the others are in this process or whether, elsewhere, the challenge just died a death. The Huddersfield guild, however, embroidered their way though 2020 and the result is an amazing book of a dozen images sewn on to hand-dyed fabric lovingly put together by one of its members.

So, I am delighted to be the first to exhibit this book of a variety of wildlife – brown hare, sunflower and hover-flies, spotted flycatcher, goldfinches, northern fulmar, macaroni penguins, Atlantic puffin, Royal Bengal tiger, and various other birds and butterflies. Go to my homepage and have a look through the work. It’s brilliant!
