The main purpose of our trip to Canada was to photograph the grizzly bears in the Glendale River, Knight Inlet, Canada. These images were taken from a safe space above the river and show the bears fishing for salmon and play fighting. On our trip, we learned that British Columbia still allows Grizzlies to be shot by trophy hunters, under licence. BC citizens can enter a lottery to win the privilege of shooting one of these magnificent animals for around 100US dollars. Other hunters from elsewhere pay a premium. Invariably, a shot animal’s carcass is left behind after its head and claws are removed. You can read the details of this grizzly practice on the ‘bears forever’ website, a link to which is to the right of ‘Ray’s blog’ page.
