I went for an early morning walk along the promenade from our hotel in Paphos, Cyprus, and was delighted to find this kingfisher sitting on the ropes of a rusty old landing-stage. The first day I saw him, I had no camera but he was a creature of habit and I waited for him the following day. I tried to get a decent picture of him fishing in the sea but he was at the far end of the structure and the sun had not yet peeked over the hotel roofs. The following day, I waited again and he flew directly towards me and sat right in front of me. Unfortunately, that was the only opportunity for a decent picture because on subsequent days, he was there rather too early for the morning light. Not to worry, it’s always nice to see a kingfisher and, definitely a pleasant surprise to see one fishing off the beach.
