On my last visit to Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen, we saw belugas in the bay but we were too far away for a photograph. Three times, they were seen during the day we were alongside this year, but it was not until we were leaving port that they reappeared and gave us half a chance of a shot. This pod was swimming away from us but, at least, they’re readily identifiable, being the only white whale and fairly scarce.
