The St Aidan’s nature reserve near Swillington, West Yorkshire, has always been open to the public but from today, the RSPB is resuming its management on behalf of Leeds City Council. It is a great place to visit with miles of tracks allowing you to get fairly close to the wildlife. We paid it a visit a couple of days ago and, although the booming bittern was tantalisingly close, it remained hidden in the reed bed. These are a few of the images from our short, early morning, visit – mute swans, linnet, pochard, black headed gull and reed warbler.
