Arctic terns on the Farne Islands

When you land on Inner Farne off the coast of Northumbria, you need to wear a hat!  Arctic terns nest all over the island and, often, right next to the footpaths.  They defend their territory and their nests by attacking the human interlopers, pecking at their heads with their very sharp beaks.  Occasionally, they’ll take a rest from their aggression by landing on your head.
