It must be a good year for mustelids because I’ve seen three this morning. This little beauty, I mistook for a squirrel as it approached our outside dining table through the undergrowth. It then proceeded to flush out a brown rat from the garden wall but the rat was off before the stoat saw where he had gone. We were then treated to a superb view as the stoat ran around the lawn looking for its prey and, at one point, stopped right next to me. He then climbed the tree and peeped around it just long enough for me to grab this shot.
