After weeks of searching my garden and David’s next door for the tawny owls, yesterday morning, I finally found one dozing in a cherry tree. They’ve been calling for ages, both night and day, but until now have proved impossible to find. Today, I disturbed her sitting near to my tawny owl box which for the past five years or so has been occupied by pigeons. She flew off into David’s cherry tree and I grabbed another shot. If you look carefully – it’s the one with the sun lighting her – she has a rodent in her claws. I took the photo at 9.30am and having prey so late in the morning makes me think she has young nearby. I’m hoping they’re in my owl box.
