Springbok attack

At a waterhole in the Etosha National Park, a black backed jackal attacks a springbok.  The jackal, which normally feeds on the kills of other animals, is also an opportunist predator, preying on small animals. At this waterhole, which is narrow and deep, they chase the springbok into the water and then attack it while it is vulnerable, dragging it out, hoping to kill it.  These are some of a series of dramatic photos I took of the altercation and, amazingly, the springbok escaped, even though at least three jackals took up the chase.
