The southern royal albatross is one of the largest seabirds, almost, and arguably, as big as the wandering albatross. With a wingspan of over 3 metres, they are graceful flyers and, with the right winds, are said to use less energy flying than they do at the nest. These are pelagic seabirds, returning to land only to breed and occupying only the southern ocean.
