At this time of year, red-breasted mergansers, sometimes known as sawbills for their serrated bills, are courting and their activities are hilarious. Periods of relative calm are interrupted by manic displays and chasing to impress prospective mates. These fish-eating ducks were playing out at Caracol, Isle of Arran, Western Scotland.
