Pale tussock caterpillar

On one of our local walks, last week, we saw this interesting caterpillar climbing up the side of a friend’s car.  I’d never seen one before but it turns out to be the caterpillar of the pale tussock moth.  I’m no expert on such creatures but it seems that it is at the northern end of its territory, some references saying it’s found in southern England and others suggesting it is found as far north as Cumbria.  Anyhow, I decided that climbing up the side of a car was not the best route for a pale tussock caterpillar so I place it in some nice greenery instead.
