In the San Ignacio lagoon, Baja, Mexico, Gray Whales give birth to their calves and nurture them until the spring, when they head north to Alaska for summer. These 14 metre animals bring their offspring to small boats in the lagoon and are perfectly happy to engage with the boat’s occupants. These particular images were taken with a measure of trial and error, using a Canon G12 with underwater housing, held under the water from the skiff.
