Aruba, otherwise known as the Caribbean Netherlands, has a small Bubali bird sanctuary. Jump on a bus from Oranjestad and you can easily spend a few hours wandering along the edges of the water or watching from a viewing tower. The young pelicans were just learning to fish, making short dives or simply scooping their prey out of the water. The green heron was doing what green herons do, fishing from a low reed and stretching into the water. Here, also, are white-cheeked pintail ducks, bananaquit with its young, a couple of Aruban whiptails and a bare-eyed pigeon. The iguana was posing for photographs in Oranjestad.
