Anole lizard

This little guy, an anole lizard, inaccurately known as the American chameleon, crossed in front of us on a boardwalk at the Six Mile Cypress Slough wildlife preserve, Florida, and then proceeded to change colour in the space of a minute. He had come from an area of greenery and was heading towards bracken-like undergrowth which might explain the change. ¬†However, as with most nature, this explanation is not necessarily true as research suggests all manner of other reasons why they might change colour, including stress or as a ‘social signal’.
