Anhingas

Anhingas, sometimes known as the snake bird for its long neck that is often the only part seen when it is fishing, on the Florida birding trail.  We could hear one of these birds before we could see it and found it slapping its prey against the branch of a tree.  The bird was not trying to kill it like the kingfisher does, but as it stabs its prey with its dagger pointed bill, it then needs to loosen it so it can throw it into the air and then swallow it.
