Ruddy mongoose

Ruddy mongoose are common in Sri Lanka.  These animals often scavenge on the kills of other animals but do kill snakes.  Their bodies produce an anti-venom which makes them immune to the snake’s poison.  Near to Sinharaja, we saw a ruddy mongoose hanging around a garden.  It turned out to be the household pet, reared from a pup when it lost its mother.
